The plot has a total area of slightly less than a third of an acre but, since its plan is anything but labour saving, it gives the impression of being much larger. Originally the site sloped to the north but after much soil acquisition and hundreds of hours spent barrowing, most of it is now south sloping. |

The soil is mainly loam in varying depths over orange-yellow clay and is now very easy to dig. It does not get too water-logged in wet weather. Parts of it however dry out rather quickly in drought conditions |

Apart from the ubiquitous slugs and snails I suffer from voranges, birds and foxes. These of course provide pleasure as well as fury. |
