THE PALESTINE POLICE FORCE,
JERUSALEM
12th
April, 1947
ALL
SUPERIOR OFFICERS
AND
INSPECTORS.
Subject
:- EVACUATION ALLOWANCES - Superior Police Officers and
Inspectors.
The following extract from an
announcement recently made by the Government is quoted for your information :-
1. In the light of the Government of
Palestine’s recent decision to evacuate British wives and children and of the
effect of this decision on those wives and children already outside Palestine
at the time of the evacuation and intending to rejoin their husbands there,
consideration has been given to the question of assisting Government officers
to meet the additional financial commitments with which they are faced in
maintaining two establishments in the present exceptional circumstances as a
result of this decision.
2. Married expatriate officers (other than
British Sergeants and Constables of the Police Force in respect of whom a
separate announcement has been made) whose families are outside Palestine will
be paid compensatory allowances at the following rates:-
(1) £17 per mensem for wife,
(2) £8 per mensem for each child under
18 years.
3. These allowances will be paid to the
officers concerned in Palestine, and will be payable for a period of four
months from the 1st March, 1947.
The question of their extension
beyond this period will be reviewed in the light of circumstances then
prevailing. In each case these allowances are intended to cover all additional
expenses, which the officer concerned may have to meet as a result of the
enforced separation from his family. The allowances are subject to Palestine
Police Income Tax.
