Our first stop in the journey from Sarona was Jenin, a totally Arab town. Those of us who found that we were not being posted here, remarked in a very belligerent and libelous manner on the shortcomings of Jenin.

The convoy proceeded on to Nazareth. Here they had a very large, modern building called a 'Tegart',* which was completely walled in and extremely secure. Nazareth was mainly an Arab town but despite its preferable appearance over Jenin, we could still point out more than a few disagreeable areas to cause concern to those selected to be stationed there.

We were now down to a one truck convoy and wondering where in blazes they planned to put the rest of us. We proceeded on to Safed, this seemed a nice Jewish/Arab town and we reckoned it was as good as Nazareth and better than Jenin so we were satisfied, not that it mattered to the powers that be.

We all got off the truck, then an announcement was made to the effect, it was planned to reopen a post in Sa'Sa and six of us were told we were the ''lucky'' ones.

Now as far as we were concerned the shoe was on the other foot and as we drove away there were many comments and references to the Foreign Legion, forgotten and left to rot etc. etc.

After driving on a second-class road, which runs along the frontier between Palestine and Lebanon, for a few hours we spied a fort like configuration on top of a hill, this was Sa'sa Post, as one of the men said '' you can see miles and miles of d--- all''. We were very disappointed in the luck of the draw that landed us in this God forsaken spot.

*Tegart buildings were named after a British police officer and engineer, Sir Charles Tegart.
