The Plaque

Some names on this list come from families influential in Leicester for centuries. The history thread on this site attempts to tell something about one of these families, the Herricks, whose members keep popping up in the story of "Black Annis and King Richard's Bed"

If you look carefully at the list you will find the name Thomas Clarke. He was a publican of the Blue Boar Inn, in Tudor times and so lived close to the school. Thomas Clarke, is a character in the story of Black Annis and King Richards's Bed . The story may be in the Imagination thread on this site but the discovery of King Richard's gold and the murder of Mrs Clarke are events that really did happen. We turn back now and trudge our way fromm High Street round the right half half of St Nichoas Circle, a busy modern Road which together with Vaughan Road has overwritten a great deal of Mediaeval Leicester. Across the road to our left are Castle Gardens where there is a statue of King Richard 3.rd We walk past the tenth century church of St Nicholas and the remains of the Roman Forum and Baths. We cross West Bridge and, without noticing it, a small island in the middle of the River Soar

We arrive at Bow Bridge
