← King Richard 3rd in Leicestershire →
On the way to fight Henry Tudor in August 1485 Richard 3rd stopped overnight at Leicester. The castle there was in no condition to receive him so he lodged at the inn in High Cross Street, which carried his emblem, The White Boar.
A widow woman, Meg, whose husband had belonged to the House of Lancaster, long time enemies of the House of York, stood in the street glaring at Richard's men carrying the bed upstairs. Black Annis, sensing the women's hatred for Richard of York, slid into her body.
Next morning King Richard left the bed in the Inn, intending to return for it on his way home.
