King Richard turned right at the top of High Cross Street to cross two bridges over the River Soar, first West Bridge and then Bow Bridge
A widow woman, Meg, whose husband had belonged to the House of Lancaster, long time enemies of the House of York, had stationed herself on Bow Bridge awaiting Richard's arrival. This Meg was gifted with second sigh. When Richard was halfway across the bridge his heel struck the low parapet and Meg seized the chance to lay a curse on him.
Richard continued on his way while Meg, followed behind, panting but still managing to shout curses. At the top of Daneshill near the cave Meg's heart gave out and she dropped dead. Black Annis left her body and settled in a young oak tree.
